In 1991, David "Woody" Wood and Lorraine Cline began partnering on marketing projects. Woody's copywriting expertise and Lorraine's graphic design skills were a perfect match for providing turn-key services for their clients. As it turned out, both had worked in the construction industry for some time and had clients within the industry who needed their help. As time went on, Woody and Lorraine realized that they could save their clients a substantial amount of money by "ganging" their print jobs on press. This meant that clients could have high-quality printed materials at a fraction of the cost, because the cost was being shared amongst several clients. In 1995, Woody, Lorraine and her husband, Don Cline, officially launched Construction Break, which provided construction newsletter services to 18 clients. Today, that number has grown to over 100, with the majority of the original clients still in the program. Over the years, in an attempt to better educate their clients about marketing and the newsletter production process, Woody, Lorraine and Don have developed a publications and seminars which address everything from advertising to public relations to digital photography.
David "Woody" Woody In January 1990, Woody left ABC to set out on his own, doing promotional writing, public relations and marketing consulting for many of the country's top construction-related professionals. His writing has appeared regularly in newspapers, magazines and trade publications throughout the country and he has been a featured speaker at numerous industry-related gatherings. Woody's quarterly newsletter, Words from Woody, is an "eclectic mix of useful information, humor, and shameless self-promotion" targeted to the design and construction industry. It has been the recipient of 19 awards, including three Construction Writers Association's T. Randolph Russell Awards, seven APEX Awards of Excellence, seven Awards of Distinction in The Communicator Awards, Gold Finalist in the MarCom Creative Awards, and was named New Hampshire Magazine's "The Very Best of NH Newsletters." In 1995, Wood began Construction Break, a newsletter service for the construction industry. Today, Construction Break serves more than 100 firms in 41 states and Canada. Woody has been actively involved with numerous design and construction trade organizations. He is a past president and director of the Construction Writers Association, and in 2005 was awarded the Silver Hard Hat, the organization's highest honor.
